Deploying Block 64 Discovery Agent via SolarWinds Patch Manager

This guide outlines steps to deploy the Block 64 Discovery Agent MSI through SolarWinds Patch Manager. While SolarWinds Patch Manager primarily handles patches, it can also deploy custom MSI packages across Windows environments.

Important: Retrieve the Enrollment Token

Before deployment, ensure you have the Enrollment Token for your environment. This token, available from your Block 64 Dashboard or through Block 64 Support, links each agent to your Block 64 environment. Using the wrong token will prevent proper agent registration.

Step 1: Prepare the MSI File

  1. Obtain the Block 64 Discovery Agent MSI file (Discovery Agent.msi) and place it in a location accessible to SolarWinds Patch Manager.

Step 2: Create a New Package in SolarWinds Patch Manager

  1. Log in to SolarWinds Patch Manager Console.
  2. Navigate to Patch Manager > Custom Packages > New Package.
  3. Select MSI File and upload the Discovery Agent.msi file.

Step 3: Configure the Package for Deployment

  1. Package Properties:
    • Package Name: Enter a name, such as “Block 64 Discovery Agent Deployment”.
    • Command Line Arguments: In the Command Line section, add:
      ENROLLMENT_TOKEN="your_token_here" /qn
      Replace "your_token_here" with the unique enrollment token.
  2. Publisher: Set as "Block 64".
  3. Install Behavior: Choose Install for System to ensure the agent installs at the system level.
  4. Run Mode: Set to Silent to avoid any user interaction during installation.

Step 4: Assign the Package to Target Devices

  1. Select the Target Devices or groups where you want to deploy the agent.
  2. Deployment Scheduling: Choose Deploy Now for immediate installation or schedule it for a later time.

Monitoring Deployment

After deployment, monitor the installation status:

  • Check Deployment Results: Access Patch Manager Console > History to view the deployment status, errors, or warnings.
  • Confirm Installation on Endpoints: Verify the Block 64 Discovery Agent installation under Programs and Features on each endpoint.

Uninstallation Steps

To uninstall, you can create a new package in Patch Manager using the following uninstall command:

msiexec /x "path\to\Slingshot.msi" /qn

Deploy this package to the target devices to remove the Block 64 Discovery Agent.
